Heracleum by Bertjan Pot.
Welcome to my blog. I’ve never considered myself a writer, so creating a blog was never on my radar. I primarily use this website for professional purposes, such as showcasing my work and CV. However, the idea of sharing my thoughts and inspirations in a blog unexpectedly took root, and here I am. If you’re reading this, I’m glad you’re here, and I truly hope you enjoy it.

Named after a Flower
The Heracleum is a plant native to Europe and Asia. Its umbrella-like shape and pinkish or white small flowers resemble this lamp.
This is one of my favorite lamps since it hit the market in 2010. Eight years have passed, and it’s still an impressive piece of design. This LED lamp is powered by a system called Electrosandwich, created by Marcel Wanders. He explains, "You have these little lights, but each of them is very sharp. If you want enough light in an LED lamp, you have to cluster them together, but if you have too many, it will blind you completely. One solution is to place these little lights further away from each other."
Bertjan Pot used this technology to create the lamp inspired by the Heracleum flower, which comes in two finishes: nickel and copper. It is a dimmable lamp that can create various sparkling moods, and the leaves can rotate 360 degrees, allowing you to position them as you wish.
It’s not just a remarkable piece of design; it’s also an impressive technological achievement. You can choose from three different settings: the "Heracleum Small II," which resembles a single stem with flowers; the "Heracleum Endless," a long, straight piece that can be arranged infinitely side by side to create an elongated design; and last but not least, the "Heracleum Small Big O" and "Heracleum The Big O," both of which come in circular forms.

Get Inspired
There are thousands of design pieces inspired by nature. Why? Because its structures are perfect. Take, for example, a beehive or a tree. If you begin to study them, you'll find that the way nature works is amazing, and it helps us architects and designers understand these structures and how to adapt them into our projects. So, go outside and explore more!
